William G. Schopperle, resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. He was 89.

Bill was born on November 25, 1935, in Port Chester New York, NY, one of two children of the late William G. and May (Mulvaney) Schopperle. Bill grew up in Harrison, New York, where he graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School. In his youth Bill loved playing baseball and basketball and was an excellent rebounder.

Bill graduated from Iona College with a bachelor’s degree in Business before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served during the Vietnam Era. He dedicated nearly 14 years to the Marines, ultimately earning the rank of Major before his honorable discharge.

In pursuit of his commitment to serve and protect, following his military service, he continued his passion for justice by joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his 23-year tenure as a Senior Tech Agent in the Boston office, Bill established enduring friendships and garnered respect from colleagues, genuinely enjoying the fulfilling work that defined his professional life. During his time in the FBI, he earned his master’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University.

After retiring from the FBI, Bill turned his entrepreneurial spirit to create STS Systems Inc., a security surveillance company that he successfully ran with former colleagues. A man of many interests, he found joy in home improvement projects, always having something new to work on around the house. Bill had a deep affection for German Shepherds, which offered him companionship and joy throughout his life.

Family was at the heart of everything he did; he cherished the moments spent with loved ones and maintained strong familial bonds. He was exceptionally generous and loved to spoil his grandchildren and was proud of and encouraged his children and grandchildren to explore and pursue their interests and hobbies.

Bill had a passion for travel, often seeking warmth in places like Aruba and Florida, and relished activities such as parasailing. He was also dedicated to sharing his passions with others, teaching a photography class at Wakefield Adult Education, where he inspired his students to capture the beauty of the world through their lenses.

Bill will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his honorable service, and his generous spirit.
