Mr. Wilford H. Crayton, of Peabody, died Sunday, March 4, 2007. He was 91 years old.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Helen L. (Bogue) Crayton; two daughters, Jean C. Simes and her husband, James Simes of East Moriches, NY and Carolyn C. McVoy and her husband, Robert, of Melrose; five grandchildren, William J. Simes and his wife, Michelle of Huntington Beach, CA, Laurie Simes of New York City, Heather Abourjaily and her husband, Paul of N. Andover, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, Blake of Marblehead, and Robert McVoy, Jr. of Melrose; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Greta Abourjaily; many nieces and nephews. His sisters-in-law, Ruth Crayton of West Henrietta, NY, Milda Crayton of Walworth, NY, Jeanette Borton of Bradenton, FL, Margaret Allen of Rochester; his brother-in-law, Robert J. Bogue and his wife, Antoinette, of Fort Myers, Florida. He was predeceased by his siblings, Eva Hawley, James Arnold, George, Gilbert, Garold, Seth and Charles Crayton.
Wilford was born July 5, 1915, son to the late William J. and Jennie (Arnold) Crayton and lived most of his life in the Rochester, NY area. He and his wife wintered in Florida until becoming full-time residents in 1998. They moved to the retirement community at Brooksby Village in April 2005.
Mr. Crayton worked as a supervisor for Eastman Kodak Company, Inc. in Rochester for over 40 years, retiring in 1977.
He and his wife were members of Irondequoit United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Rochester, NY.He was a 32nd degree Mason and member and past Master of the Wakan - Hubbard Lodge, in Rochester, NY. He was an active member in the Scottish Rites and Shriner's group in Florida. He was a member of the board of directors at Serendipity Park in Clearwater where he was instrumental in establishing it as a resident owned park. An avid golfer, he scored a hole in one at age 81 at the P.G.A. course Terry Hills Golf Course, Batavia, NY. A member of the Shoremont Yacht Club he had a great love and enthusiasm for the water, boating and sailing.
Interment will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery, Sodus, NY.
