Vincent W. “Tag” Tagliamonte, resident of Lynnfield and formerly longtime of Melrose, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at age 97.
Vincent was born in Somerville, one of four children of the late Salvatore and Mina (Percuoco) Tagliamonte. Raised in Malden, he graduated from Malden High School, and was drafted into the United States Army at age 18. Vincent served his country with humble pride during WWII, receiving two Purple Heart Awards for his service. The duty to serve his country was instilled from his father who also served, and has been passed down to future generations. After receiving an honorable discharge in April of 1946, he was married on October 9, 1946 to Concetta Sardo. They lived in Revere, before settling in Melrose to raise a family of two children.
Tag was a man with wide ranging experience, talents, and interests. Some would call him a renaissance man, others a gentleman, but to nearly everyone he was known as one the best guys around, “Tag.” Respect, honor, courage were principles that came easy to him. He loved his family with every ounce of his being, and set the bar high with his dedication to family, faith and country.
With a mechanical engineer’s mind and a business savvy, Tag worked successfully in the food industry for many years. Like many people in his generation, he knew many trades however, his forte was as a mechanical engineer and later became an entrepreneur in the food industry. He co-founded Mama Rosie’s Raviolis in 1976, a traditional Italian pasta manufacturer and was able to incorporate his knowledge and experience in fast packaging to grow the brand. He introduced several innovations in the field that continue to this day as his legacy.
In his free time, Tag enjoyed a respite on Cape Cod with his family in West Yarmouth. Other weekends were spent using his knowledge in the trades to improve the home, play bocce, or teach his grandchildren the skill of clam digging along Lewis Bay.
Tag was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose, and held his faith near and dear to his heart. He found joy in sharing his life with his grandchildren, and recently great-grandchildren. With a great business sense and analytical mind he used technology to invest wisely in the stock market, and always kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles.
Tag was a humble, well respected and well-loved family man. He brought joy to life with his mere presence and lifted everyone up around him with his dry sense of humor, and clever one liners. Tag will be deeply missed, but his life continues to serve as an inspiration for future Tagliamonte generations. May he rest in peace.
Tag was the beloved husband of Concetta M. “Connie” (Sardo) Tagliamonte with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. Devoted father of Salvatore Tagliamonte of Malden, and Maria Leach and her husband Gary of Lynnfield. Dear brother of the late Sylvio Tagliamonte, Robert Tagliamonte, and Tina Dinsmore. Cherished grandfather of Vincent Leach and his wife Alison of Boxford, and Charles Leach and his wife Luisa of Lynnfield. Loving great-grandfather of Henry Leach, Silvio Leach, and Mina Leach. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather in honor of Tag’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 27 from 4-8pm, and for his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St., Melrose on Thursday, July 28 at 10am. Interment with military honors presented by the US Army in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Ste. B-102, Danvers MA 01923.
