Stephen J. White, of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 75.
Born on October 28, 1949, in Woburn, Stephen was one of five children of the late James and Barbara (Foye) White, Jr. Stephen grew up in Wilmington, where he developed a love for music and adventure. A proud graduate of Wilmington High School in 1967, he would go on to pursue various passions that deeply enriched his life and the lives of those around him.
Stephen's early love for the guitar led him to form a band, which became a source of joy and connection for many. His adventurous spirit also drew him to the great outdoors, where he cherished camping in New Hampshire. In addition to his musical pursuits, Stephen proudly served in the Army National Guard, embodying a spirit of service and dedication.
In 1969, Stephen met his beloved Linda Croft. Their love blossomed, and they were united in marriage on October 2, 1971. The couple settled in Melrose, where they raised their beautiful family. In 1977, they opened a disco dance studio, later expanding their offerings to include ballroom dancing.
Over the next 37 years, they passionately shared their love of dance with countless students, creating a vibrant community around them. Stephen also worked for several recreation departments, taught line dancing at the senior center, and was a proud member of the Dance Teachers Club of Boston. He even brought joy to passengers aboard cruise ships where he and Linda also taught dance. They also hosted Dancing with the Melrose Stars.
Stephen’s love for family and friends was unmatched. Cherished winter retreats in Madeira Beach, Florida, and summer trips to their condo in Wells, Maine with their family was always something to look forward to. He reveled in the simple pleasures of life, from spending quality time with his grandchildren on Wells Beach to crafting homemade wine and chatting on his CB radio. Stephen held his faith close to his heart, guiding his principles and actions throughout his life. Stephen leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of all blessed to know and love him.
Stephen was the beloved husband of Linda (Croft) White with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Devoted father of Lauren White of Reading and Matthew White of Tewksbury. Cherished grandfather of Charlotte and Finn White. Loving brother of David White of Las Vegas, NV, Peter White of Los Angeles, CA, James White of Wells, ME, and Annmarie Scaramozzino and her husband Michael of Wilmington. Also survived by his nephew Michael James Scaramozzino of Wilmington and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather in honor of Stephen’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Wednesday, July 9 from 4-7pm, and again on Thursday, July 10 for his Funeral Service celebrated at 10am.
