Mrs. Ruth H. Tootie' (Bakeman) Lewis, of Everett, died Monday, February 08, 2010 in Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was 94.
Ruth was born July 9, 1915 in Everett a daughter to the late Herbert and Esther (Lowry) Bakeman and lived in Everett all her life.
Ruth, lovingly known as Tootie' had many interests and talents. She followed in her brother, Louis Jigs' footsteps and took up tap dancing. She was an accomplished artist and was a 30 year member of the Everett Art Association where she contributed with her paintings and cartoon sketches. A lover of music she also was a talented banjo and organ player. She also enjoyed crocheting. Her family will treasure the many greeting cards she made through the years with her signature seal on the homemade cards that read House of Lewis'. She was quite the entertainer with her puppets, dancing and music. Time spent with family is what Tootie' valued most.
Ruth is predeceased by her siblings: Olga Bakeman, Herbert W. Bakeman, Louis Jigs' Bakeman, David Bakeman, Esther Rabida, Vernon Johnston, Miriam Joyce and Virginia Smith.
She leaves two daughters, Joanne M. Kelly and her husband, William, of Melrose and Janice R. Whaley in Florida; her grandchildren, Lisa Kelly of Wakefield, Ruth Ann Nieman and her husband, Philip, of Wilmington, Steven Whaley of Ohio, Cheryl Brankel of S. Carolina and Paula Malakian of Medford; her great-grandchildren, William P. and Alyssa M. Nieman and the late Christopher M. Nieman, Jennifer and Matthew Whaley and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Charlotte Bessler of Chelsea; many nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was held Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in The Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose. Interment was in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorials in her name may be made to the Christopher M. Nieman Scholarship Fund, in c/o Citizens Bank, 224 Main Street, Wilmington, 01887.
