Ruth was born in Boston on February 5, 1955, one of three children of the late John and Evangeline (Foote) Lewis. She was raised in Melrose, where she graduated from Melrose High School in 1973. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Bentley University, where she earned a Master's Degree.
Ruth first went to work for the state of Massachusetts before working for the City of Melrose. She then became the Controller for the City of Arlington, where she dedicated many years of her life before retiring in 2015. Her unwavering commitment to her work and her community was a reflection of her generous spirit.
Beyond her professional life. She was an avid seamstress, crafting many of her own clothes, and had a keen eye for window shopping and finding a good bargain. Her joy for life was evident in her love of family gatherings and the cherished time spent with her friends. She also enjoyed doting on her nieces and nephew.
Ruth spent time with her parents at the serene waters of Great East Lake in New Hampshire. Later, she enjoyed basking in the sun and walking on the beaches while at her condo in Sarasota, Florida. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Ruth was the loving sister of Alfred D. Lewis and wife Myrtle of Thornton, NH, and John B. Lewis, Jr. and wife Carol of Methuen and former sister-in-law of the late Susan Lewis. Cherished aunt of Rachel (Lewis) Manero, Matthew Lewis, Amanda Lewis-Federico and husband Anthony, and the late Caroline Lewis. Also survived by her beloved partner Allan McGrath.
A Celebration of Life is planned for the fall and will be announced.
