Ronald J. Hudson

Ronald J. Hudson, a longtime resident of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024, at age 77.

Ron was born in Taunton on January 24, 1947, to Helen Messier and Howard Hudson. He was raised and educated in Taunton where he graduated from Taunton High School.

Ron loved the hospitality industry and worked as a restaurant manager for many years in Manhattan, NY where he was an active leader and participant in the "Stonewall Uprising" that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City. Returning home to the Boston area in the 1970's, Ron continued serving the gay community beginning his career as a popular bar-manager and bartender. Ron played an essential role in the Boston Gay Community socializing with customers as the community grappled with the consequences of the AIDS crises of the 1980's and 90's. His strong presence and tender heart led him to console and provide solace to so many as he fought to provide a safe place for the LBGTQ community to meet and gather. Ron remained an advocate for gay rights all his adult life.

After years of working late nights, Ron retired from the entertainment industry to become the ultimate Homemaker, relocated to Lynnfield and established new routines with his adopted family including acting as President and Chief Supporter of ThrivingGardens LLC a gardening company he shared with his husband Clifton. Until his death, Ron spent his entire life lifting those around him and was a primary source of tender care to his mother-in-law, Mildred Perkins and continued to support his father-in-law, George Perkins. In his work, he was steady and reliable; at home, he was a caretaker, homecare provider and every-day cook. Ron loved shopping and took pride in having a special eye for detecting a good bargain.

Ron's efforts to support his loved ones never flagged, even while Ron faced physical challenges of his own. Uncomplaining, and always wise to other's needs, Ron was the most selfless person one could ever have the pleasure of being around. With simple desires and an understanding and humble nature, Ron always put his concern for others above his own needs, never expecting or wanting anything in return.

Ron cherished moments with his pets, that he gave and received so much from, especially his dogs and his steady and subtle presence was beloved by Clif's family. Ron was truly a son to Mildred and George, a brother to George and Judy, and Mark. Ron's understated manner endeared himself to everyone he met.

Ronny will be deeply and sorely missed, but his unconditional care for others, and open-minded, generous heart will carry on with the lifelong impact he made on others.

Ron was the beloved husband of Clifton A.D. Perkins. Sharing over 40 years together; to Clif he was everything. Ron and Clif shared each other's hearts and minds, linking their lives with love and support for each other and others.

He was the dear brother of Gail Martin and Gloria Hudson of Taunton, and the late Joyce Hudson, Curt Hudson and Richard Hudson. Cherished son-in-law of George W. Perkins II and the late Mildred B. Perkins. Loving brother-in-law George W. Perkins and his wife Judy of Davie Florida and Mark P. Perkins of Mont Vernon, NH. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Ron can be made to The Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston MA 02118 www.pinestreetinn.org
