Richard C. "Dick" Kenworthy, a resident of North Reading and formerly of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at age 94.
Richard was born in Malden on April 20, 1931, one of two sons of the late Alfred W. Kenworthy and Grace E. (Cooke) Kenworthy. He was raised in Stoneham and Melrose, and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy. Richard served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and received an honorable discharge in November of 1955. Following his return to Melrose, Dick began his working career in the family business Kenworthy & Taylor Electrical Contractors. For over 30 years, Dick enjoyed working with his brother and father.
Dick was a kind, thoughtful, nonjudgmental and generous man. In his younger years, he found joy in hunting and boating, either sailing or on his speedboat. In later years, he continued his love of the water with cruises, visiting destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, and South America. He had a deep appreciation for classical music, and enjoyed theatre and opera. A quiet but steady presence, Dick was a regular at Ernie's Lunch on Franklin Street in Melrose where he could be found nearly everyday of the week. Dick also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Afghan Hounds, and was well known as the family historian.
Dick will be missed, but always lovingly remembered for his even temperament, unconditional generosity and accepting nature. May he rest in peace.
Dick was the beloved partner of nearly 64 years to George F. Baker of N. Reading. Dear brother of the late Alfred W. Kenworthy Jr. and his late wife Barbara. He is survived by several nephews and friends.
