Obituary

Philip W. Tsui, of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. He was 76.

Philip was born and raised in Canton, China, the son of Fong Koon Tsui and Yi Yuan Yee. As a young boy, he developed a fascination with medicine and a strong work ethic, inspired by his parents, a respected general surgeon and a dedicated charge nurse.

Driven by dreams of a better future, Philip fled Communist China during the years of the Cultural Revolution and immigrated to the United States under refugee status. He began his life in the United States in Colorado before eventually settling in the Greater Boston area where he built a life defined by hard work, perseverance, and love for his family.

Philip enjoyed a successful career at General Electric, where he worked from 1980 until his retirement in 2013. While he was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest achievement was his family. He was a devoted father to Alysia, Garett, Stephanie, and Timothy, raising his children with encouragement and an unwavering belief in the power of education.

Having sacrificed so much to create opportunities for his family, he worked tirelessly to ensure his children received a college education, a goal that brought him immense pride and fulfillment. By the time his children graduated, Phil had amassed enough college apparel to rival a campus bookstore and wore it all with pride.

Philip is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Maggie, whom he met in Hong Kong. Together they built a family grounded in love, resilience, and shared dreams.

In retirement, Philip found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and watching his children build the successful and meaningful lives he had always envisioned for them. Some of his happiest days were spent at his home on Suntaug Lake in Lynnfield, fishing, reading The Boston Globe, and reflecting with Maggie on the beauty of a life well lived. Throughout the years, Phil's beloved dogs were never far from his side, and their companionship brought him comfort and joy every day.

A passionate Boston sports fan, Philip’s enthusiasm was legendary. He was known for his quick wit, infectious zest for life, and entrepreneurial spirit. If someone needed advice on buying a car or negotiating a quick deal, Philip was always the man to call.

In his final days, Philip described life as “a vacation.” Surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren, he enjoyed playing mahjong, savoring fried clams, and sharing stories and memories from a remarkable life journey.

He will be remembered for his courage, generosity, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the opportunities he created, and the love he shared so freely with all who knew him.

Philip was the beloved husband of Maggie W. (Fong) Tsui with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Devoted father of Alysia Fullerton and husband Michael of Stoneham, Garett Tsui of CA, Stephanie Tsui and husband Daniel Parisi of Glastonbury, CT, and Timothy Tsui and wife Laura Hilliard of Somerset, MA. Cherished grandfather of Kyla Fullerton, Harper May Parisi, Blair Tsui, and Towhee Vitarella. Also survived by his former wife Lainey O’Neil of Melrose.

Family and friends are invited to honor Philip’s life during Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, June 2, from 4-7pm.
