Mr. Paul Smith, of Melrose, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, peacefully surrounded by his family, in his home after a short illness. He was 78 years old.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Winny (Vijsel) Smith; his children, Harold J. Smith & his wife Brenda of Peru, NY, Ingrid P. Long & her husband James of Melrose and Patrick Smith of Mundelein, IL; his brother, Rudolf Smith of Holland; Six grandchildren, Heather J. Lavigne, James C. "J.J." Long, Jr., Brandon P. Smith, Tiffany C. Long, Kayla M. Smith and Jeffrey T. Long. He also leaves a great-grandson, Keegan A. Smith.
His siblings, Donald, Douglas W.L. Smith, Harold Johan Smith, Rene' Smith, and Anonciade Henriette Smith all died before him.
He was born in Kertosono, Indonesia on January 24, 1928 to the late Henri William James Smith and Meintje Louise (Meelhuijsen) Smith. He moved to the United States in May of 1960. He was educated in Holland and then trained for 4 years as an aircraft technician for KLM, where he received his diploma. Upon arriving in this country he then studied at technical school in Cambridge in the evenings.
Paul worked as an electronic engineer for TAC, Transistor Automation Corporation, a division of Teledyne Corporation in Woburn, retiring in 1992.
Paul will be forever remembered as a loving family man who lived simply and cherished the times spent with those whom he loved most.
