Obituary

Creativity was not simply a hobby for Pat; it was the foundation of who she was.

Patricia A. Purcell, a longtime resident of Peabody, passed away at Salem (Mass General Brigham) hospital on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Patricia was born in Worcester on May 23, 1942, one of two children of the late John Purcell and Mildred (Dunn) Purcell. She spent her early years in Worcester before moving to Saugus, where she graduated from Saugus High School.

A gifted artist from an early age, Pat viewed the world through a creative lens and spent her life bringing beauty, color, and imagination to everything she touched. She pursued her artistic passions at the New England School of Art and Design in Boston, where she studied Fashion Illustration and design, later continuing her studies in Greek Theatre at Tufts University. Never one to stop learning, she eventually returned to school and earned a degree in Musical Theatre from the Boston Conservatory.

Creativity was not simply a hobby for Pat; it was the foundation of who she was. Blessed with remarkable artistic talent and an endless curiosity, she excelled in nearly every creative endeavor she pursued. Whether painting, drawing, sewing, designing and making clothing, creating stained glass artwork, decorating a room, cultivating a beautiful garden, or preparing a memorable meal, Pat approached each project with flair, and enthusiasm.

As a young mother, she cherished traveling with her daughters and took special pride in her years as a Camp Fire and Girl Scout mother. Pat shared many of life's adventures with her husband, Randy, whose companionship amplified their shared interests.

Pat was also a passionate patron of museums, theater, music, and literature. An avid reader, she built a vast collection of books over the years and took great pleasure in collecting antiques, always interested in the stories they carried with them.

Just as memorable as her artistic talents was her social personality. Pat possessed the gift of conversation, humor and storytelling. Her warmth, wit, and engaging spirit drew people to her throughout her life.

Patricia will be remembered as a performer, acting with The Melrose Players, community theater, in addition to professional acting at the Boston Center for the Arts (South End, Boston) and singing years with St Vasilios church choir. A woman of extraordinary talents, she enriched the lives of all who knew her. Through the art she created, the beauty she shared, and the joy she brought to others, her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Pat was the beloved wife of Randall M. “Randy” Cole with whom she shared over 40 years. Devoted mother of Julie Harrison-Mullany and her husband Terence of Weston, and Jill Harrison and her husband David Crisafi of Newbury. Loving grandmother of James, Jack and Terry Mullany, and Olivia and Erin Crisafi. Dear sister of Deborah (Lanza) Castiello and her husband Ronnie of Orlando, FL, and the late Jack (Purcell) Lanza and his surviving wife Christa of Medfield. And predeceased by her former husband Edward Harrison, father of her two daughters. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Pat’s life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, June 30 from 4-6pm, and for her Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody on Wednesday, July 1 at 10am. (Please meet directly at Church).
