Mevla Besic

Mevla Besic, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Elmhurst Healthcare in Melrose. She was 83.

Born in Zivinice, Bosnia, Mevla was the daughter of the late Camil and Hadzira (Masic) Besic. As the eldest of six children, she was a natural caregiver-selfless, nurturing, and always ready to help. From a young age, she took on the role of guiding and supporting her siblings, later extending her care to other family members and friends, always striving to bring happiness to those around her.

During the Bosnian War, Mevla and her family relocated to Germany. In 2000, she immigrated to the United States, settling in Melrose. Her journey through different countries and cultures made her resilient, resourceful, and worldly. Mevla dedicated herself to her working career as an Accountant for a large Bosnian furniture company for many years.

Known affectionately as a "world champion shopper," Mevla could spend entire days searching for the perfect items to surprise her family, friends, and neighbors. She showed her love through her generosity and hospitality, often providing loved ones with her delicious home-cooked meals-especially her famous cakes and pies.

Family was always at the center of Mevla's life. She treasured her annual visits back to Bosnia, and her greatest joy was her grandson, Dino, with whom she shared a close and loving bond. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her selfless heart, boundless care, and inspiring strength.

Mevla was the devoted mother of Mirsad Murguz and his wife Svetlana of Melrose; the proud grandmother of Dino Murguz and his wife Nikole of Concord; and the loving sister of Izeta Arsic and her husband Zoran of Long Island, NY, Izet Besic of Germany, and Safet Besic of Bosnia, as well as the late Zihnija and Zineta Besic. Loving aunt of Maja Beyer and her husband Dan and their daughter Vivian Beyer of Long Island, NY; Melissa and Melani, both of Germany. Also survived by the Gojkovic family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose, on Wednesday, August 20, from 11am to 12pm, followed by a Graveside Service at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose, at 12:15pm.
