Maureen K. (Bowes) Hagen, 73, long-time resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Maureen was Born in Melrose on May 23, 1953, to the late Thomas P. and Theresa J. (Kripp) Bowes. Maureen was a lifelong resident of the community she loved so dearly.
Graduating from Melrose High School, she took a brief detour into the world of hairdressing, completing her studies at Melrose Beauty Academy. However, Maureen found her true calling when she graduated from Youville School of Nursing, earning her LPN designation. For years, she dedicated herself to caring for others at the Melrose Care Center and, later, at Sawtelle Hospice House. Her compassion was unmatched; she treated her patients as if they were her own family, with a bedside manner that radiated warmth and kindness.
Maureen was a remarkable woman-unique, loving, and deeply devoted to her husband, Robert, and their wonderful family. She was always present and attended every event she could, showcasing her dedication to those she held dear. Family trips to New Hampshire and twice-yearly excursions to Florida filled her heart with joy, but her favorite place of all was wherever her family gathered.
Beyond her nurturing nature, Maureen had a creative flair. She enjoyed knitting, shopping, and baking. The most magical day of the year for Maureen was Christmas Day, a time when she showered her loved ones with gifts, relishing the joy on their faces as they opened her surprises. She never missed a chance to remind her family just how much they meant to her.
Maureen's legacy of love, warmth, and compassion, will remain with those who were blessed to know and love her.
Maureen was the beloved wife of fifty-four years to Robert A. Hagen. Devoted mother of Jennifer Ragucci and husband Richard of Saugus, Daniel P. Hagen and wife Laurie of Stoneham, Timothy S. Hagen and wife Diane of Everett, and Andrew W. Hagen and wife Marisa of Rockland. Cherished grandmother of William, Madelyn, Gianna, Victoria, Emily, Bryana, Patrick, David, Tenleigh, and Chase, and great grandmother of Legend, Lilly, AJ, and the late Jesiah. Loving sister of Theresa (Bowes) Nealand and the late Thomas, Robert, and MaryEllen Bowes.
Family and friends are invited to Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, Sept. 11 from 4-7pm, and again on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 9:30am before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., for her Funeral Mass at 10:30am.
