Obituary

Maureen G. (Hilton) Flammia, long-time resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. She was 86.

Born on November 10, 1939 in Boston, Maureen was the oldest of three children of the late Elizabeth Grace (Hughes) Hilton. Raised in East Boston, Maureen’s spirit blossomed from an early age. A proud graduate of Fitton High School, she served as President of the Class Council, showcasing her natural leadership and dedication to her peers. In 1961, she graduated from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing where she had discovered her true calling. For over 40 years, Maureen embraced her role as a Registered Nurse at “City,” pouring her heart into her work and forming lifelong friendships with her nursing school colleagues and fellow staff members.

Maureen met and later married her beloved Anthony R. Flammia, and they went on to share over 58 years together filled with love, travel, adventure, and a lot of dancing. In 1968, Maureen and Tony moved to Melrose to raise their family, bringing with her an infectious energy and a warmth that lit up every room she entered. Known as the life of the party, she had a unique ability to make those around her feel special and loved, effortlessly bringing people together for holidays and celebrations filled with joy, laughter, and, of course, her culinary delights. Her home was always open for gatherings with family and friends.

Maureen's Catholic faith served as a guiding light, enriching her days and shaping her values. Her kindness, support, and genuine spirit made her a friend to all. From sharing in laughter, to comforting those in need, she knew how to lift others' spirits.

As we say goodbye, we carry with us the legacy of her kindness, laughter, and love. Maureen will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those she touched.

Maureen was the loving wife of the late Anthony R. “Tony” Flammia. Devoted mother of Elizabeth Flammia Rosato and her husband Thomas of Melrose and Budapest, Hungary. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth Grace Rosato. Dear sister of the late Dorothy M. “Candi” Sieswerda and her late husband Paul, and of the late Francis J. Hilton, Jr. Sister-in-law of the late Barbara Bradley and her surviving husband James of Massachusetts. Also survived by her godson and nephew, Paul J. Sieswerda, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Jan. 6 from 4-7pm, and again on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 9am, before leaving in procession to St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St., for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
