Mrs. Mary (Tousey) Pierce of Naples, Florida and Kennebunkport, Maine and formerly of Melrose, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 8, 2010 at her daughter's home in Tewksbury, MA.She was 85 years old and had enjoyed a long, full, and vibrant life.
Mary Tousey Pierce was born on May 7, 1925 in Boston, one of two children of the late George Tousey and Gladys (Nettleton) Tousey.
Mrs. Pierce graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1942 and from Wheaton College in 1946.Mary married Roger Curtis Pierce on June 19, 1948 and together they raised three children and ran the family wholesale hardwood business, HOLT & BUGBEE Company in Tewksbury where she actively participated for over 45 years.Following her husband's death in 1990, Mrs. Pierce served as President of the company from 1991-1995.
Residing in Melrose for 50 years, Mary was actively involved in numerous charities and donated her time generously, particularly to the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.More recently while residing in Naples, Mrs. Pierce continued to do civic work and served on the Board of Directors for The Vineyards in Naples.She was a member of West Parish Church in Andover and the United Church of Christ in Naples.
Above all else, Mary's happiest moments were those spent with her family.She was the beloved wife of the late Roger Curtis Pierce with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Becky Pierce of Tewksbury and Kennebunkport, ME, Roger Curtis Pierce Jr. and his wife Judy of Andover, and Phillip Tousey Pierce and his wife Tricee of Andover.Dear sister of the late George Tousey III.Cherished grandmother of Susan Kilbride and her husband Michael of Freeport, ME, Sean Curtis Herlihy and his wife Beth of Andover, Stephanie Pierce of Somerville, Brittany, Caroline, Michael, and Benjamin Pierce all of Andover, and Betsy Pierce of Philadelphia, PA.Loving great grandmother of James Curtis Herlihy and Hannah Jeannette Herlihy both of Andover.
Funeral Service to celebrate and honor Mary's life in West Parish Church, 129 Reservation Rd., Andover on Friday, November 12 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours will be held at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE on Thursday from 4-8 PM.Interment in West Parish Garden Cemetery, Andover.Gifts in Mary's memory may be made to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, PO Box 7004, Cape Porpoise, ME 04014 (Attn: Use for the Timber Point Association)
