Obituary

Mary E. (MacDonald) Mogavero, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at age 77.

Mary was born in Melrose on December 19, 1948, one of two children of the late James and Dorothy (Raye) MacDonald. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School. While at Cerratani's Market in Melrose, Mary met and fell in love with Frank Mogavero. They were married on February 20, 1972 and settled in Melrose to raise a family of two children.

Mary began her career as a Registered Nurse, providing compassionate care to elderly patients in their homes and in local nursing facilities. Later, she found a position that offered greater flexibility for family life, working as a Sales Associate at Marshall's in Saugus for more than 30 years. There, she formed lasting friendships and was known as a warm, energetic presence with a genuine smile and generous heart.

Family was the center of Mary's world. She enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, traveling to Foxwoods or Atlantic City with Frank, and setting off on spontaneous road trips. Yet nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her loved ones. She devoted herself fully to her husband, children, and especially her cherished grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, and Jason. Whether shopping, sharing a meal, or simply laughing together, Mary treasured every moment.

Selfless, loving, and endlessly supportive, Mary embodied the role of family matriarch. She was the one who would drop everything to help, encourage, or simply be present. A steady source of comfort and strength, she was a true blessing to those she loved and was deeply loved in return.

Her absence will be profoundly felt, but the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family.

Mary was the beloved wife of 47 years to the late Frank J. Mogavero. Devoted mother of Timothy Mogavero and his wife Karen of Woburn, and Tami Toomey and her husband Brian of Woburn. Sister of Bruce MacDonald and his late wife Beverly of San Diego, CA. Cherished grandmother of Grace Toomey, and Sarah and Jason Mogavero.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor and remembrance of Mary during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 3-7pm with a Time for Remembrance at 6:30pm.
