Mrs. Marjorie (Truesdell) Servis of Melrose, Massachusetts and York Beach, Maine passed away on August 11, 2010 at Sentry Hill, York, Maine, where she has lived for the past year.She was 102 years of age.
Although born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on April 9, 1908, to David and Elizabeth (Blood) Truesdell, her family moved to Melrose that year.Marjorie attended Melrose schools graduating Melrose High School in 1926 and Lesley College in 1929.
She was a second grade teacher in Melrose.She first taught at the Ripley School, substituted frequently, and retired from the Washington School in 1976.
Marjorie loved entertaining in her home on Oakland Street and traveling.Marjorie white river rafted the Colorado and the Chilko/Chilcotin-Fraser Rivers with her husband.She traveled to Japan, China, New Zealand, Norway, Korea, most of Europe and the United States.A highlight was a hot air balloon ride for her 80th birthday.
Marjorie was an active member of Faneuil Hall Old State House Chapter DAR, Unitarian Universalist Church, 200 Club, UUW, Community Associates and Theta.
She was predeceased by her husband G. Webster Servis, her brother David E. Truesdell Jr., granddaughter Allyson Pritzker, nephews C. Clark Truesdell and John W. Thompson.
She is survived by her loving children: Diana (Pritzker) Devlin and her husband Thomas of Cape Neddick, Maine; Peter W. Servis and wife Linda of Wellesley, MA; Judith A. Servis of Pembroke, MA.Cherished Grandchildren: Gregory Pritzker & Janet, Dana Point, CA; Jeffrey Pritzker & Carlene, Dover, NH; Elizabeth Pritzker & DL, Oakland, CA; Joanna Dowaliby & Troy, Dover, NH; Shon Servis & Lylan, Shrewsbury, MA.; Scot Servis & Katie, Lakeville, MA; Jessica Cristani & Wayne, Plymouth, MA; Christopher Searles & Myra, Suwanee, GA.Beloved great-grandchildren: Pamela, Kristen, Tyler, Sarah, Mikayla, Bray, Cy, Sara & Lauren.
Wonderful aunt to Hope (Truesdell) Thomson & Donald of CT, David E. Truesdell, III & Dorann of AZ and the Thompson's: Willard, David, John, Bruce of VA, Estella (Thompson) Class of DE and Bets ("Sis") Thompson of TX and her devoted friend Dawn Marie Morgan of Melrose.
A Celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 70 W. Emerson St., Melrose on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Marjorie Truesdell Servis Memorial Fund, Lesley University, Office of Advancement, 29 Everett St., Cambridge, MA 02138, ATTN: Randy Stabile.
