Marilyn J. Boynton, 87, of Melrose, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022 in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA after a short illness.

Born on October 3, 1934, in Millinocket, ME, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Percy and Mina (Gordon) Boynton. Raised in Millinocket, Marilyn graduated from Millinocket High School in 1952. It was in Millinocket where she formed her strong commitment to family and faith.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn is predeceased by her brothers Reginald Boynton, Gordon Boynton, Richard Boynton, and sister Elizabeth (Boynton) Austin.

After her high school graduation, Marilyn moved to Massachusetts to attend the Somerville School of Nursing. She was a dedicated nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital for over 30 years, working as the first nurse in the Mass General Endoscopy Unit. She was a faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Melrose where she sung in the choir, supported the Food Pantry, enjoyed Thursday morning bible study, and prepared crafts for the annual church fair.

Marilyn cherished her many friends, including her life-long best friend Polly Boynton from Millinocket, ME. She and Polly shared many memories growing up together, and although they were in different states, enjoyed retirement trips over the years and talked almost daily by phone. Marilyn also had a close, loving group of Melrose friends: Beverly Schluntz, and the late Jesse Freda and Sandy Hamilton.

Upon retirement, Marilyn spent winters in Zephyrhills, FL with her sister-in-law, the l ate Nadine Boynton, with whom she shared a very close relationship.

Marilyn was a beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews, including Mary Ellen (Boynton) Tapley of Millinocket, ME, Michael Wolpe of Fargo, ND, Susan (Boynton) Tower of Millinocket, ME, Steven Wolpe of Amherst, NH, Robert Wolpe of Walpole, MA and Christopher Boynton of Austin, TX. She was predeceased by her nephews Scott and Richard Boynton and her niece Kathy Boynton. She is also the beloved great aunt to many great nieces and great nephews.

Marilyn will be deeply missed for her love and commitment to her family and faith. We will always remember "Auntie" with either a book in her hand, smiling at shows on the Hallmark Channel, playing cards and board games, making her famous "scrubbies" or on her cell phone with her many friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Marilyn's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose, MA on Friday, March 25 from 3-5 pm, followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 5:00 pm. Interment will be in the Millinocket Cemetery, Millinocket, ME at a future date.
