Mrs. Marie J. (Pasqua) Salamanca, a long time resident of Melrose, passed away on Monday afternoon April 6, 2009 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital surrounded by her family.She was 71 years of age.
Mrs. Salamanca was born in Boston on February 18, 1938, daughter of the late John Pasqua and Carmela (Merullo) Pasqua.
She was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School and Salem State College.Marie worked as a secretary at the Museum of Science, The Church of the Incarnation and was an activities director for the Fuller House - Congregational Retirement Homes.Mrs. Salamanca loved and took much pride in her position as a Crossing Guard for the City of Melrose.
She was President of Melrose Arts and Crafts, member of the Red Hats Society and enjoyed her many years of membership in three local book clubs.In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting, and reading.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and cherished her time with family and friends.
Marie was the beloved and cherished wife of Anthony P. Salamanca with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.Loving mother of Paul E. Salamanca and his wife Cynthia of Lexington, KY;Maria C. Reid and her husband Ken S. of Salem; Lisa P. Kaplan and her husband Michael of S. Berwick, ME;John P. Salamanca and his wife Josie of Danvers and Anthony J. Salamanca and his wife Jennifer of Meredith, NH.Dear sister-in-law of Anna Leo of East Boston.Cherished grandmother of Jean Ellen, John, Emily, Elizabeth, Cara, Marisa, Ariel, Toni Marie, Stephen, Sandra, Gina, Anthony, Juliana and Noah.Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, on Tuesday, April 14 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and remembrance of Marie in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Monday, April 13 from 3-8PM.Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
