Katherine A. (Kostas) Ray, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at the Golden Living Center - Melrose, at age 83.
Katherine was born in Boston on May 6, 1933, one of five children of the late Stephen Kostas and Rose (Dresky) Kostas.She was raised in Boston where she graduated from Girls Catholic High School. Katherine, known affectionately by all as "Kay" worked as a legal secretary for over 30 years.
Kay was an independent yet loving family woman. A dedicated shopper, she took the train into downtown Boston to go bargain shopping at Filene's at least once a week. Buying gifts for herself or others made her the most happy. A beach lover, she also loved the feeling of the warm summer sun on her skin and many years maintained a year-round tan.Kay was strong willed and led an independent life, but also loved spending time with family, and cherished any family holiday or gathering. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Kay was the dear sister of Rosemary Graham and her late husband Bill of Braintree, Constance "Cookie" Devaney and her late husband Thomas of Abington, and the late Charles Kostas and his late wife Carolyn and the late William Kostas and surviving wife Joanne of Easton. Also survived by her loving niece and caregiver, Cathleen Lawlor of Brockton, and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Kay's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, August 8 from 4-8pm, and again on Tuesday at 10am before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 11am. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
