Josephine M. Gigliello, of Saugus, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Melrose. She was 89.
Born on June 21, 1936, in Boston, Josephine was one of eleven children of the late John and Teresa (DeSpirito) Gigliello. Raised in East Boston, she found joy in drawing, dancing, and sewing during her youth. She often reminisce about her childhood growing up in Eastie. She enjoyed playing games outside on the neighborhood streets. They would play outside till it was time for dinner. She also enjoyed hanging out with her friends at the local Soda Shop, where they ate delicious treats and danced to the latest jukebox tunes.
Josephine pursued her education at secretarial school, which led her to a fulfilling career with the Department of Welfare, where her dedication to helping others shone brightly.
Josephine carried her love of sewing into adulthood where she enjoyed making clothing and curtains. Josephine, loved dressing up and being stylish and having her hair just right and looking glamorous. Her guilty pleasure was watching television soap operas. Talkative by nature, Josephine loved a good chat with family and good friends. She loved spending time at gatherings with her beloved family. She enjoyed making desserts and was known for her delicious Thumb Print Cookies. She also enjoyed her trips to Cape Cod.
Josephine, was an independent and strong woman. She was a two time Breast Cancer survivor. Her resilience is noteworthy because she fought her battle with cancer and found the strength to raise her little girl. She was an attentive and loving mother who focused her time solely growing up her daughter.
Josephine will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, and the love she shared with everyone around her. May she rest in peace.
Josephine was the devoted mother of Karen M. Picardi and her husband Steven of Saugus. Proud grandmother of Eric and Kacie Picardi. Loving sister of Dorothy Cheek of Seabrook, NH Rosemarie Maio of Peabody, Ronald Gigliello, FL, Annette Chiaradonna of Seabrook, NH, Nancy Clanton of Saugus, Theresa Salvati of Douglas, and the late James, Michael, and John Gigliello, and the late Phyllis Cicchetti. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
