Obituary

Joseph L. "DoDo" Paglia, of Saugus and formerly long-time resident of the North End, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was 98.

Born on December 22, 1927, in the North End, one of two children of the late Frank "ChiChi" and Theresa (Vozzella) Paglia.

Joe grew up in the North End, and spent much of his younger years boxing, a spirited pursuit that formed a foundation of camaraderie and resilience he carried throughout his life. Joe owned a bar in Chelsea during his younger years before spending decades as a bartender at the Corner Cafe. Those who knew him will fondly remember his easy laughter, quick wit, and warm heart-attributes that made him a loyal friend to many.

An avid reader with a passion for knowledge, Joe also enjoyed horse racing and relishing trips to Cape Cod and Ogunquit, Maine. He loved the time spent with family and was an exceptionally proud father and grandfather.

Joe's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He lived life to the fullest, with a spirit that inspired and uplifted those around him.

Joe was the father of Melissa Paglia-Hurley and her husband James of Saugus and Joseph Paglia of Boston, and stepfather of Edward Castadoro and his wife Jennifer of Billerica and Diana Castadoro and her partner Rick Lefebvre of Tewksbury. Brother of Mary Ann Longo and her husband Richard of Boston. Grandfather of Benjamin and Henry Hurley, Edward and Morgan Castadoro, and Taylor MacKinnon. Uncle of Tracy Costa who is also his Goddaughter, and Lynn Bova and her husband Joseph of the North End. Also survived by his great nephews, Richard and Joseph Bova. Former partner of the late Diana Castadoro.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 4-7pm, and again on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9am, before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Entombment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
