Joseph Antonucci, resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at 98 years old on Friday, June 18, 2026. Beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, he was a witty, kind, and wise soul who touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Even in his final year when he was confined to a wheel chair and his body battled pain, he treated everyone with kindness and humor, never complaining and always greeting people with his sweet, charming smile, typically followed by a joke. He set an amazing example of how to age, living his many years to the absolute fullest. While his later years posed challenges and limitations, Joe always found ways to continue to enjoy life and make the most of each and every day.
Born on January 28, 1928 in Everett, MA, he graduated from Everett High School in 1946. He proudly served as a US Marine at the end of WWII, traveling the world aboard the USS Midway carrier. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Queenie Antonucci, who passed away in November 2023. They had three children, Paul, Bob and Laura, and created a loving and fun home to grow up in, where good values were front and center and laughter was always encouraged. He owned Vanderven Auto Parts stores for decades and worked as a jobber, creating lifelong friends through his business. After he sold the business in 1990s, he continued to work part time until he was forced to quit at 92 years old when the pandemic hit.
Over the course of his life, Joe had many passions. One was spending time at Sebago Lake in Maine. He began going there to fish as a young man with his older brother Bill, and eventually bought property so his family could enjoy summers at the lake. He spent decades at Sebago going out on his boat to catch fresh water salmon, taking his kids water skiing, growing veggies in his garden, and doing all kinds of projects in one of his many workshops. He also loved traveling out west to visit his oldest son in Colorado. Together they took annual adventures, with their friend Rich, to hike in National Parks including Arches, Canyon Lands, Zion, and Bryce. Another of his passions was woodworking and Joe always had a project going, from remodeling his summer home to building furniture.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his three children, Paul Antonucci, Bob Antonucci and Laura Feng, his grandchildren, Bobby Antonucci, and Matt and Bella Feng, as well as his daughter-in-law Ellen Antonucci, his son-in-law David Feng, and his sister, Phyllis Orszulak. He is predeceased by his wife, Queenie Antonucci, his brothers Bill Antonucci and Eddie Antonucci, and his parents, Angelo and Bambina Antonucci.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather during Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, June 24 from 4-7pm, and again for his Funeral Service on Thursday, June 25 at 10am. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
