John B. Lewis, 90
of Melrose, affectionately known to many as the "Candy Man" died Saturday evening December 18, 2004 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness.
John was born in Stoke on Trent, England May 25, 1914, son of the late Alfred Lewis and Nancy (Averill) Lewis. John was known as the "Candy Man" for 60 years working in the candy business for Bailey's of Boston and Putnam Pantry Candies. John was well known for his ability to make excellent tasting fudge and chocolate candy. He was a member of the New England Confectionery Association and Trinity Church in Melrose. John graduated from Melrose High School class of 1933 and served in the U.S Army during WWII. He loved camping with his family in New Hampshire and he was a member of Fidelity Lodge, Melrose. John was the husband of the late Evangeline "Van" (Foote) Lewis.Father of Alfred D. Lewis and his wife Myrtle Mogg Lewis of Simi Valley, CA, Ruth E. Lewis of Peabody and John B. Lewis Jr. and his wife Susan E. Lewis of Methuen.John was the grandfather of Matthew W. Lewis and Rachel A. Lewis both of CA, Amanda N. Lewis of Methuen and the late Caroline O. Lewis.
Funeral Service at Trinity Church, 131 West Emerson St., Melrose Wednesday December 22 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Tuesday 4-8 PM.
