John Andrew Fraughton Sr., 79, of Lynn, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born on November 16, 1946, at Malden Hospital, John was the son of the late Everett P. and Evelyn S. (Fitzgerald) Fraughton. He grew up in Malden and spent the rest of his adult life in Lynn, where he built lasting friendships and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, serving in the Philippines and Vietnam. After completing his military service, he began a long career with the United States Postal Service as an electronic technician. He took great pride in maintaining and repairing the sophisticated machinery that sorted and processed the nation’s mail, applying his technical skill and dedication throughout his years of service.

John enjoyed fishing whenever he had the chance, loved playing computer games, and embraced technology as a way to keep in touch with friends near and far. One of his greatest pleasures was traveling to Maine with Carlene to visit friends and family. Another favorite memory was a trip to Jamaica with Carlene and Andy, where he and Andy went snorkeling together—an experience he often looked back on with a smile. Those travels and shared moments with loved ones became some of his most treasured memories.

John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his skilled work, and the friendships he maintained throughout his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and once said that his purpose in life was simply to make one person laugh. By that measure, he succeeded many times over.

His kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but the laughter he inspired and the love he shared will remain with his family and friends forever.

John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carlene, and a loving father to his children, John Jr., Christine, and Tammy. He also cherished the time he spent with his late stepson, Andy, and his stepdaughter, Deirdre, who brought great joy to his life. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His greatest happiness came from spending time with his family and staying connected with the people he cared about.

Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of John for a Visiting Hour at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, July 31 from 9-10am followed by his Funeral Service at 10am. Entombment with honors provided by the United States Air Force at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
