Obituary

Joan B. McCourt, 80, of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 19, 2026 at her home.

Joan was born on May 7, 1946, in Cambridge, one of two children of the late Frank and Lena (Imperato) DiChristoforo. She grew up in Charlestown, where she graduated from Charlestown High School. While working at Prudential, she met the love of her life, Douglas E. McCourt, and the two were married in 1974. They settled in Lynnfield in 1979, where they created a warm and loving home.

As a proud domestic engineer, Joan devoted herself to her family, cherishing her role as a wife and mother. Her beautiful smile and caring nature brightened the lives of those around her. Joan took joy in basking under the sun, whether at the beach or by the pool, and had a talent for finding the best bargains while shopping. Her culinary skills shone through in her legendary meatballs, loved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.

A woman of strong faith, her Catholic beliefs were an essential part of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her spirit. Joan enjoyed traveling, particularly to the Caribbean, Florida, and Maine, creating treasured memories with her family.

Joan was the beloved wife of Douglas E. McCourt. Devoted mother of Edward and wife Andrea McCourt of Saint Johns, FL, and Leah McCourt of Danvers. Proud grandmother of Otis and Lena McCourt. Loving sister of Joyce (partner Kenny Kane) DiChristoforo of Falmouth.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 1 from 4-7pm, and on Thursday at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 758 Salem St., Lynnfield for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 11am. Please meet at church.
