Jean C. (Davies)(Bookman) Cormier, longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester on November 15, 2022. She was 92.
Born in Cambridge on December 14, 1929, Jean was one of three children of the late Frank and Theresa (née Spitzer) Davies. She grew up in a large multigenerational household in Cambridge. In her younger years she enjoyed many good times in and around Harvard Square with family and friends, including ice skating on the Common.
She met Donald Bookman when she was working at General Motors Finance Corporation, and they married shortly thereafter. They moved to Malden initially before settling in Melrose to raise their beloved children. Don and Jean shared many happy years together before his passing in 1992.
Jean met Gerard Cormier at the Peabody Senior Center and they married in 1995. She enjoyed wonderful times with Gerry and his family until his death in 2012.
Jean was a proud homemaker and exceptionally active in the lives of her beloved family. Trips to the family cottage on Woods Pond in Bridgton Maine, expertly completing crossword puzzles, cooking delicious meals, and cheering for the Boston Celtics were some of Jean’s favorite activities. She valued her children’s education and took pride in their accomplishments. Jean found great joy and pride in her work as an Assistant Teacher at the Melrose Day Care Center where she worked for ten years.
Jean’s kindness, big heart, wry sense of humor, and love will be missed by all.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Donald S. Bookman and Gerard J. Cormier. Devoted mother of Peter Bookman and his wife Jennifer Christy of Wilmington, DE, Karen Cushnie and her husband Richard of Kamuela, HI, and Chuck Bookman and his wife Jennifer Freeman of Melrose. Loving sister of the late Frances Wallace and Robert Davies. Jean is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a cause close to your heart.
