Janis L. Galvin

Janis L. (King) Galvin, a longtime resident of Everett, passed away peacefully at Aspen Hill Rehabilitation Center in Haverhill on Monday, August 12, 2024, at age 68.

Janis was born in Melrose on July 18, 1956, one of two children of the late Robert E. King and Blanche L. (MacNeill) King. Raised in Melrose, she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1974, and while spending time in Charlestown with friends, met Francis G. Galvin at his family owned store. They married on September 16, 1978. They lived in Medford and Malden before settling in Everett to raise a family of 3 sons.

Janis enjoyed her working career as a Passport Specialist for the US Department of State in Boston for 20 years. In her free time, she was a longtime and active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Everett where she was involved both as a spiritual leader and as a volunteer. A dedicated mother, she was always supportive and attentive; found joy in cooking comfort food for family and made sure that every occasion was celebrated and fun. Janis loved to laugh and make those around her laugh. When she wasn't caring for those around her, she made sure to take the time to travel and explore life. Any excuse to travel was a good one, whether it be for work, church or with her family, Janis wanted to see it all. Some of her most memorable trips were the cruises she took with her Mother, Blanche, around the Caribbean and the cruise they both took with Janis' husband and 3 sons around the Hawaiian Islands.

For fun closer to home, she spent years in weekly bowling leagues, summers at their camp in New Hampshire and loved music, especially the Beatles. She was a great and loving influence on her 3 sons, and cherished her grandson, Sean. May she now rest in peace.

Janis was the beloved wife of Francis G. Galvin with whom she shared nearly 46 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Jason Galvin and his wife Ann of Amesbury, Derek Galvin of Charlestown, and Craig Galvin of Everett. Loving grandmother of Sean Galvin.  Loving sister of Robert King and his wife Joyce of Tewksbury and the late Carol A. Galvin.  She is also survived by 4 loving nieces, Jennifer, Crystal, Sherry, and Lisa and by many loving cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Janis during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, August 16 from 4-7pm, and again on Saturday, August 17 for her Funeral Service at 10am. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
