James F. "Skip" DelGenio, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, at age 60.
Skip was born in Melrose on April 18, 1965, one of five children of the late Amidel A. DelGenio and Regina M. (Walker) DelGenio. Raised in Melrose, Skip graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1983 where he played on the 1982 football Superbowl team alongside many of his lifelong friends.
A tradesman through and through, Skip worked for more than 20 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with Local 4 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Never one to sit still, he also worked as a Master Plumber, often lending a hand to friends and family on projects big and small. If someone needed help, Skip showed up.
Skip's roots in his community ran deep. He was a longtime member and current President of the Melrose Fish and Game Club. He was also very involved with Melrose Youth Football and served as Coach and Treasurer for many years. Just as important to him were the lifelong friendships formed in high school, bonds built on the field that remained strong and constant throughout his life.
Loyal, passionate, and generous, Skip was a guy's guy with a tough exterior and a genuinely kind heart. He loved football, was a die hard Patriots fan, and was especially proud to attend a Super Bowl with his son, Anthony. He was equally devoted to his daughter, Regina, supporting her fully in everything she pursued. He also enjoyed many vacations with Maria to destinations around the world. Skip was always there for the people he cared about, no questions asked.
Dedicated to his family, Skip had a love for the family house in Acton, Maine on Mousam Lake. There, surrounded by family and friends, he would recount family stories around the campfire and share laughs with those closest to him.
One of a kind, Skip will be missed by many, but his larger than life presence, and unwavering loyalty will continue to live on through his family and friends.
Skip was the beloved husband of Maria C. (Pagliarulo) Winslow. Devoted father of Anthony DelGenio and Regina DelGenio, both of Melrose, and Megan Winslow of Saugus. Cherished brother of Dennis DelGenio and his wife Marianne of Danvers, Kathryn DelGenio of Melrose, David DelGenio of Malden, and Stephen DelGenio and his wife Sharon of Melrose. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Skip's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 4-8pm, and again on Friday, Jan. 16 at 9am before leaving in procession to Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
