Mr. Howard M. Bacon,Major USAF retired of Melrose, died suddenly on Saturday afternoon October 30, 2010 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.He was 94 years old.
Mr. Bacon was born on December 27, 1915 in Malden, one of two children of the late C. Lester Bacon and Anita (Hamilton) Bacon.
Howard was raised and educated in Malden.He loved playing golf and bowling, and belonged to a bowling league at the Wakefield Bowladrome in Wakefield.He attended Bentley Business School and earned his BA from Boston University in 1955.After working for 30 years at Union Warren Savings Bank in Boston, Howard retired as Vice President and Auditor at age 65.Howard served his country proudly in the US Air Force305th as a navigator and flew B17's.He retired after serving 33 years with the rank of Major. Howard loved to travel, and he and Marion traveled across the United States twice, viewing as many covered bridges as possible en route.They also traveled twice to Hawaii, and while there enjoyed staying at Military Bases.In addition to these trips, Howard and Marion were fortunate enough to have visited all 50 states. Perhaps their favorite trip was when they traveled by train across Canada to Vancouver, where they embarked on a cruise to Alaska.Howard loved college football and looked forward to watching Friday night boxing.Howard was a member of Trinity Church in Melrose.
Howard was the beloved husband of the late Marion P. (Hargreaves) with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Devoted father of Cynthia G. Silva and her husband Joseph P. of Melrose.Dear brother of Jane Marks of Melrose and the late Dorothy Dombrowski.Cherished grandfather of Michelle L. Rauseo and her husband Michael D. of Saugus, Jessica L. Faragi and her fiancé Jeffrey Leonard of Saugus, and Evan J. Silva of Melrose.Cherished great grandfather of Madelynne Leonard of Saugus.
Funeral Service at Trinity Church, 131 W. Emerson St., Melrose on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Tuesday 4-8 PM. . Gifts in Howard's memory may be made to the memorial fund at Trinity Church.
