Mr. Henry G. Hedquist, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield.He was 89 years old.

Henry was born on July 27, 1921 in Swampscott, the only child of Olaf Gustaf Hedquist and Alida (Carlson) Hedquist.

Henry Hedquist was raised and educated in Malden where he graduated from Malden High School.He served his country in the US Army during World War II and graduated from North Park Jr. College in Chicago, Illinois.Mr. Hedquist worked in the banking industry for 40 years, retiring as Assistant Treasurer from Union Warren Savings Bank in Boston.He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Melrose and the Community Covenant Church in Peabody. Mr. Hedquist enjoyed gardening, watching the annual Army-Navy college football game, and especially loved to travel.He and his wife, Mildred, loved the many family excursions they had in their trailer over the years.

Henry was the beloved husband of Mildred (Olsson) Hedquist with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.Devoted father of Kenneth N. Hedquist and his wife Nancy of Saugus, Carol L. Curry and her husband David of Derry, NH, Ruth C. Carmichael and her husband Kevin of Reading, and the late Carl L. Hedquist and his wife Shelly of Reading.Cherished grandfather of Melissa Kwiatek, Michelle Hedquist, Shawn Stickney, Scott Stickney, Sarah Stickney, Brian Carmichael, and Kelsey Carmichael.Loving great grandfather of Alex, Ray, Sara Louise, Tyler, Rylee, Gianna, and Shawn.

Funeral Service at the Community Covenant Church, 33 Lake St. Peabody on Saturday, January 29 at 10:30 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday from 4-8 PM. Interment with military honors presented by the US Army in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
