George A. Leach

Mr. George A. Leach, Jr. USAF Major Ret. of Melrose, died Wednesday morning, November 14, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Mr. Leach was born November 9, 1920 in Boston, son of the late George A. Leach and Bessie J. (Murphy) Leach.

George was raised in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School.He attended Northeastern University and received his Bachelor's degree from Harvard University.He proudly served in the US Army during WWII and enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.After 21 years of serving his country in the military, George worked as a government liaison in the defense contracting industry.

George's love and passion was for the natural sciences.He generously donated his collection of Native American Arrowheads to the Smithsonian Institute.

George was the beloved husband of Maryalice (Fargo) Leach.Devoted father of Laurel A. Leach of Ashford, CT, George A. Leach, III of Melrose, David A. Leach and his wife Nina of Watchung, NJ, and Thomas A. Leach and his wife VeAnn of Melrose.Dear brother of the late Joan Kugelman.Father-in-law of Julie Fine of Melrose.Cherished grandfather of Megan, Timothy, Carolyn, Abigail and CJ Leach.Also survived by many nieces and nephews and a loving extended family.
