George P. Ahlin, 83, of Peabody and formerly of Melrose and Revere, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with family by his side.
Born on October 6, 1942, in Boston, to the late Richard and Claire (Phillips) Ahlin, George's life was a testament to commitment—to his profession, his family, and his community. He grew up in Everett, where he attended Everett High School before pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. With a thirst for knowledge that would define his career, George became a registered pharmacist.
George married his beloved Ann Batting on Sept. 28, 1974 and shared many years of love and adventure together.
He owned and operated Harding’s Drug in Everett for 20 years, serving his customers with dedication and compassion before closing the store in 1991. He went on to work for Merck-Medco and later at the Rehabilitation Center in Woburn until his retirement.
George’s contributions extended beyond his professional life; he was a pillar of the Everett community. He served on the Board of Trustees of Eagle Bank for 25 years and was a member of the Everett Foundation of Aged Persons for 30 years, where he held the roles of treasurer and president. His commitment to service was further exemplified through his involvement with the Board of Mystic Valley Elder Services for 15 years and the Board of Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett. His generous spirit and eagerness to share his knowledge made a lasting impact on many lives.
Outside of work and community service, George enjoyed a range of hobbies that brought him joy. He found pleasure in photography, biking, and swimming. George was a lover of seafood and enjoyed dining out. George enjoyed family trips to Cape Cod and in later years found solace in the beauty of the Maine coast in Boothbay Harbor.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
George was the beloved husband of Ann (Batting) Ahlin with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Devoted father of Erik F. Ahlin and his wife Kathryn of Concord and Kimberly H. Krueger and her husband Ryan of Dracut. Cherished grandfather of Emily Krueger, Claire Ahlin, Philip Ahlin, and Caitlyn Krueger. Loving brother of Barbara Frith and her late husband Douglas of Bermuda and the late Ronald R. Ahlin and his surviving wife Dee. George is also survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and devoted friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of George’s life during Visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Sunday, March 8th from 2–5pm, and on Monday, March 9th for his Funeral Service at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of George may be made to Mystic Valley Elder Services, 300 Commercial St., #19, Malden, MA. 02148.
