Mrs. Genevieve E. "Gen" (Mott) Humes, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a period of declining health.She was 89 years of age.
Gen was born on March 13, 1921 in Wolfeville, Nova Scotia, one of two children of the late George N. C. Mott and Viola J. (Davidson) Mott.
Mrs. Humes graduated from Wheelock College and was a kindergarten and first grade teacher for several years before she married.She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose, where she was famous for her acting in church amateur theater productions, especially Arsenic and Old Lace.'She was also a very active and caring member of the Melrose community where she was a member of Kappa Delta Psi, Church Women United and past president of Chapter W of the P.E.O.
Genevieve was the beloved wife of the late Judson I. Humes with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Jonathan C. Humes and his wife Ellie of Melrose and Lindsey V. Humes of Melrose.Dear sister of the late Ellis Mott.Cherished grandmother of Adam C. Humes of Melrose.Dear aunt of Nancy Erickson and Melissa, Kristin, Hannah and Nicholas Mott.
Funeral Service to honor and remember Gen's life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose on Monday, November 1 at 12 Noon.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE on Sunday from 2-6 PM.Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.Gifts in Mrs. Humes' memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 561 Main St., Melrose 02176.
