Gaetano J. "Gus" Macone, a proud American, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and longtime resident of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was 88 years old.

Born on Independence Day, July 4th 1938, in Somerville, Gus was one of three children of the late Gaetano and Anna Macone, who immigrated to the United States from Gaeta, Italy. The first generation of his family to be born in America, Gus was deeply proud of his Italian heritage but equally proud to call America his home.

Gus served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1959. His military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life, and he deeply cherished the friendships and camaraderie he shared with his fellow servicemen. He was a true patriot whose love for his country never wavered.

Gus met the love of his life, Rose Colombo, and they were married on April 16, 1977. Together, they settled in Lynnfield and built a loving family. Gus and Rose shared 49 years together, including their love of dancing, especially ballroom dancing.

For more than 20 years, Gus worked as a technical drawing teacher for the Somerville Public Schools, where he formed impactful relationships with students. He also served as a Justice of the Peace and was a longtime active member of the Somerville Elks Lodge #917. A true jack of all trades, Gus could fix just about anything around the house.

Above all, Gus was most proud of his beloved family. Nadine, Marco, and his three grandchildren were the center of his life, and he treasured their time together. He also loved good conversation, a great cigar, and the company of close friends, especially his lifelong best friend, Richard Liberacce, whom he had known since elementary school.

Gus will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength of character, patriotism, loyalty, and, above all, his unwavering love for his family.

Gus was the beloved husband of nearly 50 years to Rose M. (Colombo) Macone. Devoted father of Nadine Desiderio and her husband Marco of Lynnfield. Loving grandfather of Graziana, Rocco, and Francesca Desiderio. Dear brother of the late Anthony and Raymond Macone.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Gus at St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield for his Funeral Mass on Friday, Sept. 4 at 11am.
