Evelyn T. (Hart) Landry, of Saugus, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on May 27, 1933, in Lawrence, Evelyn was one of two children of the late John and Anna (Wilde) Hart. Evelyn grew up in Lawrence and was a proud graduate of St. Patrick's High School. She fondly remembered her childhood summers spent on Plum Island, where laughter and joy were plentiful.
On October 8, 1955, Evelyn married her beloved Joseph A. "Freddie" Landry. Together, they settled in Saugus, where they raised their family. Evelyn dedicated her life to her family and embodied kindness, loyalty, and a vibrant spirit that made her a cherished friend to many.
She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her children and doted on her grandchildren. She was active in their many school and sporting events and in later years, always made sure to stay up to date on what was going on in their lives.
After Evelyn's children were grown, She started working as a secretary for Attorney Richard Riley in Lynn and later at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital's Education Department. Her journey of giving back continued, as she volunteered at her daughter's optometry office and once traveled to Tennessee to volunteer with an organization that provides free medical care.
A longtime, faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Evelyn also participated in the Church Guild. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a ladies' book club. She delighted in weekly games of Rummikub with her neighborhood friends, where her laughter and fun-loving nature brought joy to all. Her talents extended to sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening and indulging in her passion for crossword puzzles and romance novels. Evelyn was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics and enjoyed shopping trips and time spent in Jonesport, Maine.
Evelyn will be dearly missed-her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. "Freddie" Landry with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Cheryl A. Landry and her husband George Rouse of Mendon and Joseph W. Landry and his wife Patti of North Reading. Loving sister of the late Mary Patricia "Pat" Brown and her surviving husband Norman. Proud grandmother of Nicole E. Landry, Kristen P. Landry, and Gregory J. Landry and his wife Rebecca. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Evelyn's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 2-5pm, and again on Monday morning at 9:15am before leaving in procession to Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus, for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30am.
