Mr. Elmer N. Wolf of Melrose died Friday, September 3, 2004 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Wolf was born in Woods Harbor, Nova Scotia, son of the late Moses H. and Ora Etta (Nickerson) Wolf. He was a resident of Melrose for over 53 years. Elmer was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Charlestown High School. Mr. Wolf worked at General Electric Company in West Lynn and Wilmington as an Electronic Technician. He also worked as a Lab Technician, Engineering Assistant, Photo Lab Technician, Magnetic Development Technician, Field Service Technician, Group Leader in Standards Lab and Supervisor of incoming inspection and meteorology lab. Mr. Wolf worked a total of 39 years of service to General Electric before retiring in 1977. He served in the United States Navy during WW II and held the rank of First Class Electronic Technician. He also served during the Korean Conflict. He was a 33 year member of the Board of Directors of the West Lynn GE Employees' Credit Union, including the position of President and CEO. He was a Chapter Delegate of the Northeastern Chapter of the Credit Union League of Massachusetts. He was named Credit Union Person of the year in 1991. Mr. Wolf was a staff member of the Melrose Emergency Management Agency, support staff of the Seabrook Nuclear Station Evacuation Team. He was a 50 year member, 3rd degree member and Junior Steward of the Fidelity Lodge of Masons AF & AM. Mr. Wolf was an active member of the Green Street Baptist Church for 52 years. He was also active with the Melrose Auxiliary Police for over 36 years and currently held the position of Lieutenant. He was a Special Police Officer for the City of Melrose. He was a former Deputy Civil Defense Director and fence viewer for the City of Melrose. Elmer was the husband of Enid L. (Goreham) Wolf. Father of Valerie L. Wolf of Westford, Roger E. Wolf and his wife Linda of Singapore. Brother of Nancy Kess of Clearwater, FL and the late Alfred Wolf. Grandfather of Joshua R. Wolf and Sophia L. Wolf.
Funeral service at the Green Street Baptist Church, 179 Green St., Melrose, Friday, September 10, 2004 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose Thursday 4-8 PM.
Gifts in his memory may be made to the Green Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
