Elizabeth "Betty" (Brown) Varney, 81
of Stoneham, formerly of Melrose, died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Woburn Nursing Center in Woburn.
Mrs. Varney was born in Melrose, December 27, 1922, daughter of the late Edward H. and Mary (Earl) Brown.
Mrs. Varney was raised and educated in Stoneham where she lived the majority of her life. Betty was a graduate of Stoneham High School. She was a nurse's aide at Winchester Hospital for 25 years and nurse's aide for 15 years at the Fitch Home in Melrose. Betty was a long time member of the First Congregational Church, Melrose, a Girl Scout Camp Director and Den Mother for troops in Stoneham.Betty and her late husband, Philip, had shared 49 years of marriage. Betty was the wife of the late Philip A. Varney.Mother of Virginia "Ginny" Varney of Stoneham and Philip A. Varney, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Rutland, VT.Grandmother of Christopher, Mark, Matthew and Sean Varney.Great-grandmother of Jessica, Tanner and Dylan.Sister of Eleanor Cornwell of Atkinson, NH and Myrtle Beach, SC.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
