Elisabeth was happiest when supporting the people she loved.
Elisabeth V. (Currie) Borgioli, a resident of Saugus and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Merrimack Health Hospital in Lawrence on Monday, July 13, 2026. She was 77.
Elisabeth was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, on February 18, 1949, one of two daughters of the late James Currie and Edith (Serberg) Currie. As the daughter of a career Army serviceman, her childhood was spent in several locations across the world, experiences that shaped her quiet confidence and gracious way with others. She graduated from Swampscott High School and later attended the Katherine Gibbs School.
In 1977, Elisabeth married Carl Borgioli, and they settled in Melrose, where they raised their two daughters. Motherhood became the great joy of her life. She was a constant source of encouragement, volunteering at school events, serving as a Room Mother, and later as Treasurer of the Horace Mann Elementary School PTA. Whether friends or family, Elisabeth was happiest when supporting the people she loved.
After raising her family, Elisabeth returned to the workforce. She spent ten years at the local landmark, Movies on Video in Melrose, where she was a well liked fixture for her warm smile and friendly manner. She later worked for many years at Massachusetts General Hospital in Everett, bringing the same kindness and gentle spirit to everyone she met.
Elisabeth had a natural gift for creating something beautiful that fit just right. She loved decorating her home, especially during the holidays, and delighted in warmly welcoming family and friends. Her creativity showed in everything she touched, from carefully chosen decorations to beautifully wrapped gifts that became a family tradition. She also loved shopping and could always be counted on to find just the right gift or finishing touch. Her enthusiasm was so genuine that she even appeared in a memorable Christmas Tree Shops television commercial.
In later years, Elisabeth found a circle of friends at Hillview West on Thomas Street in Saugus. Whether enjoying a game of cribbage, sharing a glass of wine by the pool, or simply spending time supporting each other, her neighbors became an extended family whose mutual affection brought her great happiness. Later in life while facing significant health challenges, Elisabeth met each obstacle with quiet determination, remarkable courage, and classic grace.
Kindhearted, thoughtful, and naturally gracious, Elisabeth had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She carried herself with quiet elegance, always the consummate lady, and her genuine warmth made lasting friendships wherever she went. She was deeply loved, never complained and inspired those around her with her gentle strength.
Above all, Elisabeth was a devoted mother and a cherished "Meema" to her grandchildren. Nothing meant more to her than her family, surrounding them with unconditional love, and selfless joy. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and steadfast devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of her family and many friends.
Elisabeth was the devoted mother of Jennifer Gulliver and her husband Paul of Salem, NH and Rebecca Borgioli and her partner Ryan Stober of Leominster. Cherished grandmother of Alexandra Elisabeth, Angelie, Justin and Jackson Gulliver. Dear sister of the late Pam Hartwell. Also survived by her dearest longtime friend Janet Swanson of Swampscott, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather in honor of Elisabeth's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, July 24 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
