Eleanor M. “Ellie” Marchi, of Wakefield, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Bear Hill Healthcare. She was 85.
Born in Auburn on September 26, 1940, Ellie was one of five children of the late Andrew and Helen (Symmes) Love. She exemplified warmth and kindness throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ellie was a proud graduate of Auburn High School and continued her education at the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her Diploma of Nursing. Embarking on a fulfilling career as a registered nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, she dedicated herself to the care of others until her retirement in 1999. Her passion for nursing was evident in the compassion and caring she showed to her patients, her fellow nurses, the support staff, residents and physicians she worked with.
In 1963, Ellie married Marco J. Marchi and they settled in Melrose to raise their family. She was a wonderful and pleasant person, known for her caring nature and her unwavering love for her family. Ellie found immense joy in nurturing her gardens, sewing, quilting and knitting and sharing laughter and conversation with friends and family. She volunteered for many organizations her children were involved in, including Boy Scouts of America Troop 635 and Melrose Bandaiders. Her love for travel took her to many destinations around the world, with her favorites being Italy and Bar Harbor, Maine.
Later in life, Ellie became a big fan of the Red Sox, cheering on the team with her beloved grandchildren. Ellie’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Ellie was the beloved wife of 63 years to Marco J. Marchi. Devoted mother of Christoper A. (wife Tomi) Marchi of Beaverton, OR, Peter M. Marchi of Wakefield, and Amy L. (husband Michael) Lynch of Wakefield. Loving sister of the late Robert (late wife Virginia) Love, Carolyn (late husband Henry) Gancarz, David (late wife Elaine) Love, and Barbara Love. Cherished grandmother of Aldo, Piero, and Giancarlo Marchi, and Sean, Bryan, and Brendan Lynch. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for visiting Hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE on Fri. June 19 from 4-7pm and again on Saturday for her Funeral Service 11am.
