Mr. Eldon C. Swim, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away at home with his family on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the age of 96.
Born on June 29, 1916 in Clarks Harbor, Nova Scotia, he was one of three children of the late Merrill A. Swim and Vera K. (Maxwell) Swim.He was raised and educated in Belmont and served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.On January 23, 1942, he married F. June Skillings and they raised two daughters, Susan and Cindy.
Eldon worked for State Street Bank and Trust for over 40 years, retiring as a Senior Vice President.His many years of experience in the banking field led to several memberships and appointments in the local community.He served on the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Board of Directors, and served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee.He was an Honorary Trustee at Melrose Cooperative Bank, accepted into the Massachusetts State Bar as an Attorney, and member and past-president of Bellevue Golf Club. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Fidelity Lodge AF&AM.
During his spare time, Eldon loved golfing and skiing.With a home in Alton, New Hampshire for many years, Eldon and his family enjoyed many winters skiing at Gunstock Mountain. He also was an avid coin collector and enjoyed travelling throughout the world.
He was the beloved husband of F. June (Skillings) Swim with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.Devoted father of Cynthia "Cindy" Paige and her husband Edward of Malden, and Susan K. Dixon of Peabody.Dear brother of the late Marjorie K. VanHess, and Jim Swim.Cherished grandfather of Michelle K. Dixon of Peabody and her fiancé Richard Johnson of Wilmington, and Edward M. Paige, Jr., of Wilmington. Cherished great-grandfather of Daniel L. Paige of Wilmington.Dear uncle of Charles Swim of Melrose and Bruce Swim of Winchester.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Eldon's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, October 16 from 4-8 PM and for his Funeral Service at First Church in Malden, 184 Pleasant St., Malden, celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Air Force in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.Gifts in Eldon's memory may be made to the above named Church or a charity of your choice.
