Eileen O. DeGregorio, of Wakefield, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 30, 2025. She was 38.
Eileen loved life! She loved her family, especially her sister Anna Joy. She loved her many Aunts,Uncles and cousins. She cherished her friends and their families as well. She particularly loved being a Godmother. She secretly had named herself “Fairy Godmother” to many of the children who enriched her life. Eileen was a baby/child magnet.
She was a gifted teacher, a memory maker as well as a memory keeper. She was a party girl, but not in the traditional sense of the phrase. She loved decorating, planning, surprising, participating and then scrapbooking the entire event. As a small child, and well in to adulthood Eileen hated for the party to be over. At Christmas she was transformed into “Sparkle” the Elf weaving Christmas magic everywhere.
Eileen’s heart remained steadfastly with those who battled childhood cancer, she was a faithful supporter of Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Eileen prayed diligently for every child whose face graced her donation envelope.
Eileen’s name translated from Irish means bright, shining, light, and she embodied all the qualities of light. She dispelled darkness, she intuitively knew when it was time to be hard or soft. She knew what direction to take throughout her years of battling cancer, and provided light for those she loved and encountered. She entered this world as a force to be reckoned with, and will now be a force for good in Heaven.
She was the beloved daughter of Anthony J. and Joan M. (O’Donnell) DeGregorio. Loving sister of Anna Joy DeGregorio of Washington D.C. Cherished niece of Judy Taylor and her husband Al of N. Reading, Wilma DeGregorio of RI, Robert O’Donnell and his wife Karen of Allston, Eileen Casto and her husband Tim of Andover, James O’Donnell and his wife Kathy of Philadelphia, Brian O’Donnell of NY, Anthony Della Piana and his wife Pia of Saugus, the late Denise Lutz and her surviving husband Dr. Paul Lutz of Boxford, and the late Michael O’Donnell. Also survived by many beloved cousins, God children, and family friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather in Eileen’s memory at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose on Thursday, June 5 from 4-8 PM, and on Friday, June 6 at St. Patrick’s Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham (meet at church) for her Funeral Mass at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
