Alex Raupp, of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away five years ago on July 26, 2021 at the age of 57 years old. We share this remembrance today to honor and celebrate a life that continues to be remembered.

Growing up as the older son of an Army officer, Alex moved frequently across the United States during his childhood, instilling his interest in other cultures, meeting new people, and exploring new places. As the older brother of three children, it was Alex's insatiable curiosity that led his siblings and friends on many adventures - from riding horses in Colorado to exploring Rhode Island decommissioned forts, to ice sailing on frozen Minnesota lakes.

Alex was a curious and inventive person from an early age, often hunched over a table building intricate Tamiya scale model airplanes and ships, and later he took his passion for space and science fiction to become a Stormtrooper for parties and parades, retrofitting his costume with realistic aspects depicted in the Star Wars movies.

After university, Alex explored the world, living and exploring places from Turkey to Vietnam, to Korea, Japan and Taiwan where his appreciation for Asian culture and history brought him to meet his beloved Taiwanese wife, Hannah, sharing a beautiful bond built on mutual respect and shared adventures. Alex and Hannah made a life in Minnesota, and there had their daughter, Sydney, who Alex cherished. He was completely devoted to his family, and his daughter was truly the love of his life. He absolutely adored her, actively bringing her up and guiding her through her life. His presence as a father was constant, protective, and deeply loving. It was his absolute thrill that he was able to attend Sydney's college graduation during Covid. Though five years have passed, his spirit, warmth, and the lessons he taught her live on vividly in her heart.

To know Alex was to know insatiable curiosity, kindness, helpfulness and capability. It was also to know humor. Alex was a hilarious person, with a genuine sense of the ridiculous in equal measure to slapstick. He brought a lightness to everyone who knew him.

Alex was surpassed in death the year before by his brother Tomi, and is survived by his beloved wife, Hannah, his cherished daughter, Sydney; his devoted parents, Marilyn and Edward, and his dear sister, Martha and her two daughters, Kaelyn and Tamsyn, all of whom miss him every day.

Alex's life reminds us that every person leaves something behind-not only in accomplishments, but in kindness, friendship, humor and humanity. May he rest in peace.
