Arthur D. Marcotti, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on November 22, 2020, at age 92.
Arthur was born on June 16, 1928 in Somerville, one of five children of the late Chester and Ester (Pieroni) Marcotti. Raised in Somerville, he married fellow Somerville High graduate and high school sweetheart, Norma Gradone at St. Joseph's Church in Medford on July 21, 1950. They shared 70 ½ years of a wonderful marriage with two children, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Arthur served his country honorably first with the US Navy, then with the US Air Force reaching the rank of Colonel. He received his bachelor's degree from Boston University and worked as Accountant and Treasurer of Forsyth Dental Hygiene Clinic in Cambridge for over 40 years.
With his wife Norma, Arthur loved traveling and cruising. For many years, he and Norma visited Bermuda at least once a year. They also enjoyed many adventures cruising around Europe. At home in his free time, Arthur was a meticulous landscaper who enjoyed cutting the grass, trimming the hedges and keeping everything neat and tidy. He also was a Boston Celtics fan and enjoyed attending many games as a season ticket holder in the 70's and 80's.
Arthur was member of the Melrose Knights of Columbus, and the Air Force Reserve Officers Association.
Mr. Marcotti was a man deeply rooted in family. He set the bar high with his strong family values and remained so proud of his grandchildren. He will be forever remembered.
Arthur was the beloved husband of Norma J. (Gradone) Marcotti with whom he shared 70 ½ years of marriage. Devoted father of the late A. Douglas Marcotti and his surviving wife Alison of Melrose, and the late Diane M. Bowen and her surviving husband John of Stoneham. Dear brother of the late Gerald Marcotti, Rita Zammarchi, Chester Marcotti and June Losco. Cherished grandfather of Keith Marcotti, Andrea Marcotti, Vanessa Bello, Gina Foshage, Julia Wrightenberry, and the late Michael Marcotti. Loving great-grandfather of Ashlynne, Julian, Aarya, Ava, Nicholas, Amelia, Tegan, Richard, William, and Annmarie.
Out of respect and concern for public health, services to honor Arthur's life will be held privately.
